Quartz Microplates
Microplates, which are normally made of transparent injection
moulded plastic, are primarily used in the areas of clinical
chemistry and microbiology.
Microplates made of quartz offer several advantages over
plastic microplates due to their following desirable properties:
 | FLAT & BUBBLE/STRIAE FREE -
SUITABLE FOR MICROSCOPY
The microplate base is produced to the highest
optical standards ensuring that it is flat and bubble/striae
free. The microplates are therefore suitable for use in
microscopy (inverted microscope) |
 | STABLE AT HIGH TEMPERATURES
NECESSARY FOR DNA ANALYSIS
A further advantage of quartz is its stability at
the high temperatures necessary for the analysis of various
substances such as DNA and proteins. |
 | AUTOCLAVABLE
Quartz microplates can be autoclaved. |
The dimensions of the quartz microplates, as well as the
dimensions, number and arrangement of the wells, are identical
to those of the standard microplates, thus making them
interchangeable for many applications.
As a cost saving alternative, a strip containing 8 wells is
also available. Twelve of these strips, when placed into a
plastic holder available from firms such as Nunc in Denmark,
yield a complete microplate with 96 wells.
Microplates are also available with black quartz body
sections.
